The Sami Health Paradox
Info
Description
Sweden's Sami are the healthiest indigenous population in the Arctic. But has this come at a cost to their culture?
Per Sjölander, executive director the Southern Lapland Research Department on the state of Sami Health, explains how Sami populations are feeling the cultural pinch, divided between Swedish contemporary culture, and the traditional Sami way of life. Lisa Utsi examines this paradox in her interview with Sjölander.
This video interview was conducted in March 2011, in Kiruna, Sweden and was filmed with the cooperation of SVT Sápmi and Sameradion.
