All speculation about competition for Arctic resources are groundless, the Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, said during the International Arctic Forum currently underway in Moscow.
Mr. Putin said that despite existing territorial disputes between the Arctic nations, all problems can be settled via diplomatic means. The Russian Prime Minister confirmed his country's plans to boost its scientific presence in the region and called on Arctic nations to focus on climate changes that have been affecting the region in recent years.
Mr. Putin emphasized that all environmental requirements would be met during the implementation of various industrial projects in the Arctic, including exploration of the Yamal peninsula and the Shtockman gas field development in the Barents Sea.
