The Norwegian government has not yet decided whether the fleet will be replaced but the military has put forward a report that says submarines are necessary for its operations.
The Swedish company Kockums is currently developing the next generation of submarines, which interests Norway, according to Aftenposten.
Kockum's press representative John Ahlmark tells Swedish news agency TT, "foreign markets are of interst to us, including Norway's, but there are no formal contacts or negotiations under way."
