Thank you for that interesting interview. I have been through Lancaster Sound. It is part of the Northwater, a polynya at the entrance to the Northwest Passage, and as such is extremely biodiverse. I find it odd that there would be even a hint of oil and gas research in this area, as it has been under a moratorium since 1978. On top of that, it is under consideration for marine protected area status. There was a similar proposal for a scientific study on BC's North Coast a couple of years ago- something called Batholiths. After much uproar, because of the fear it might adversely impact whales and other marine creatures, the project was canceled. I am no Luddite, but I do feel that we have a tendency to study things to death. Sometimes it's better just to leave pristine areas alone, undisturbed.
