A brother and sister team from Iqaluit has reached the halfway point on their 3,000-kilometre trek through the Northwest Passage.
Sarah McNair-Landry, 24, and her brother Eric, 26, are hoping to become the first to kite-ski the route.
But they are also going off the beaten track and visiting communities along the way.
They've stopped off in Paulatuk, Kugluktuk and just recently in Cambridge Bay to meet with the community.
Eric said they also had to make some much needed repairs to some of their sleds.
"There was some rough ice and that's kind of where we damaged the sleds, maybe going a little bit too fast in the rough ice," he said.
"We had a storm day that we tried to kite through and it got a little bit ridiculous, the visibility closed in, it was very difficult to see Sarah at times and we were going through really bad rough ice."
Eric said people in the area warned them to keep an eye out for grizzly bears because there have been reports of sightings, more so than polar bears.
He said they talked to the Rangers and got good advice on a route they can follow over Victoria Island
The duo are now on their way to Gjoa Haven.
