Canada and four other nations with Arctic Ocean coastlines, including the United States, Russia, Denmark and Norway, are asserting their jurisdiction over parts of the Arctic. Other countries are arguing that the Northwest passage is an International Straight, and Canada has no say over who passes through it. Marc Montgomery talks to Andrea Charron, a research fellow at the Carleton Centre for Security and Defence Studies. She explains disputed Arctic areas and claims of sovereignty.
